This combination tool can be used to both install a helical inserts, and also then break the tang off from that insert. To install an insert using this tool, slide the inserts tang into the tools slot, making sure the tang is not touching the bottom of the slot. If needed, adjust the collar of the tool. After turning the insert firmly into place, you can then turn the tool so the bottom is laying perpendicular to the tang, and strike with a hammer or other tool to break the tang off.
